Broadband

The internet is playing a bigger role in most people’s lives nowadays, yet the average broadband speed in Acton Bridge is behind the average for Rural UK. Some parts of the village suffer from very poor broadband speeds (less than 10Mbps), and there are no properties currently served by Fibre to the property (FTTP) broadband. The Parish Council has been working on ways to improve this. Freedom Fibre are currently building a full fibre broadband network in Weaverham and we have the opportunity to get this extended in to Acton Bridge – but we need the support of residents to enable it to happen!

With this infrastructure, residents would be able to get 500Mbps broadband – with no setup cost to them.

We would encourage all residents to sign up for the Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme at www.freedomfibre.com/register. The more households or companies that do this, the more likely it is that we can get this technology in the village. Registering for a voucher does not commit you to anything. Under this scheme the Government will give Freedom Fibre towards the cost of building the network.

You can view or download a step-by-step guide on how to register for the voucher by clicking here.

The Parish Council held a broadband information evening on the scheme on Wednesday 10th November. You can see the slides and brief accompanying notes by clicking here. There is another information session being held in the Parish Rooms at 7:30pm on Thursday 25th November.
