Title:  Flooding Engagement Events – Winter 2021- 2022

Summary:     To inform Members the Council will be holding several Flood Engagement Sessions locally in some of the worst flood affected areas of the Borough.

Background

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Cabinet will view proposals detailing the Council’s plans to help reduce the impact caused by flooding on residents, businesses and communities in the borough this week.  Over the coming weeks officers have also arranged a number of hyper local engagement sessions in some of the worst affected boroughs to talk to residents about what work the Council has been doing since Storm Christoph.  Separate discussions will be held in Northwich.

What is happening

The purpose of these events is to listen to and understand resident and business concerns

To let residents know what the Council has done and will be doing on their behalf

Promote proactive activity from residents and businesses

  • Stage 1 Information – Preparation or self-help.
  • Officers will offer basic advice and guidance about what residents can do to help themselves e.g. how can I access sandbags and use them effectively
  • They will sign post to existing sources and information and assets e.g. link to .gov website advice, Floodhub etc. https://thefloodhub.co.uk/
  • Confirm what has been happening in the local area (by the Council)
  • Promote Community Resilience Plans (noting they are not flood plans)
  • Gain local intelligence
  • Stage 2 information – what can I do to protect myself if there is still a problem?
  • Stage 3 information – who to contact in the Council or partners if there is still a problem
